Girl from Nowhere started as a series...that literally came out of nowhere, and happens to become one of the Top 10 Most-Watched Netflix Series here in the Philippines. In the first season, we realized Nanno is a female student, embodying an immortal entity, who goes from one school to another to root out souls on a brink of sinning, and tempts them further to do their own evil. She encourages them as cleverly as possible, and when she finally gets them stuck into her rabbit hole, she lets them pay for their sins. She's a temptress, a trickster, and a punisher.
Can you hear her manic laughter now?
In Season 2, Nanno is back to punish those who deserve it, but there's a new girl in town who turns out to be Nanno's rival. This season is not only a new set of punishments, not only there'll be more gore, but Nanno's journey to discovering the worth of her existence. Each episode touches on old and new social issues like teenage pregnancy, social media fame, peer pressure, flawed education systems, hazing, and more. In the first few, we watch Nanno go about her usual process; seeking the root of misdeeds in the school, tempting them, and then make them pay for their wrongdoings by their own hands. At the end of those episodes, we are left with a note, a hint, or a message from someone. Who is it from?
In the middle of the season, we meet Yuri. At first impressions, she has that wide mischievous smile like Nanno's, but it is her eyes that complete her devilish look. She's the girl who happens to follow and observe Nanno, almost like she's helping her behind the scenes. But in fact, she's trying to do one better than Nanno in her own ways. Do we get to find out where she came from?
In one episode, we see Yuri's humble beginnings, before she became this manic force of nature. She has always been a follower in her school until Nanno comes in and finally makes her execute what she plans on doing all along: to make everyone pay for their crimes.
Yuri becomes the type of person who wants to bring the chaos and punishment in quick compared to Nanno who takes her time, a slow burn if you will. The two harlequins are like the old and the new, side by side. Whose ways are better than the other? It's scary to find them at work. Yuri acts similar to Nanno but always plans one step ahead of her.Season 2 really performed well as advertised in the trailer. There are so many scenes that are hard to swallow and too easy to look away from. It's a lot more intense than the first season, so you better buckle yourself for this one. Is it necessary? Actually, yes. The things these "victims" do to deserve this torture are horrible. It's almost at the point where you start to think...is this still worth it? Have they learned enough?
As hard it is to try not to spoil you guys, Season 2 is truly a wild ride of torture, but now there's a story running behind all of them with Yuri now tailing behind Nanno. Will Yuri outdo Nanno? Or will Nanno discover the worth of her existence?
RECOMMENDATIONS
If you're a fan of Season 1, then go ahead and continue to Season 2. Fair warning, it is more intense, more explicit compared to the first season. If you're not a fan of blood and gore, then sit this one out.
Overall, season 2 is the type where you can watch in your spare time or if you want a blood-dripping and bone-crushing marathon. Do you think there'll be a Season 3?
