Suzume no Tojimari || Quick Review

Suzume, a 17-year-old girl, meets Souta, a young man looking for a door. Out of curiosity, she sought out the mysterious door and discovers that it opens to a different world, only to welcome disaster and destruction in hers. Now she embarks on a journey to help Souta to close the doors all over Japan in order to save everyone.  Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS really know how to use music in creating the world and emotions of the story. With Japanese mythology and historical elements, they get to tell a common message differently that in the end leaves you emotional. Cinematography and animation are just beautiful yet intentional. (Wish I can say more about this but I might spoil)  And dammit, I have nothing to say about the voice actors because I have a soft spot for Japanese VAs.  Although, I kinda wish that there was more emphasis on Suzume’s feelings and thoughts about her past. There are scenes that do but they didn’t express enough for me to make the ending more im...

Happy New Year 2022! | Reflect & Onward

Happy New Year!

I don’t know if anyone will ever read this since I don’t have a proper email newsletter yet, but if you’re reading this, I hope you have a wonderful 2022 ahead of you.

I started this blog as a side hobby, a place where I can express my thoughts on movies, tv-series, and books, where I can share what I've learned as a creative trying to be better than who I was yesterday.

As I posted parts of me here, at the start of 2020, I uploaded more of me on Youtube. At a time, I wanted to be serious in putting out content on my Youtube channel. Let me emphasize the word "trying". I know I shouldn't give my full-time job at the time as an excuse when other YouTubers were able to do it. Well, what may be easy for them may be hard for others.

If you're a subscriber to my Youtube channel "Megan Louise" and have been wondering if I'm ever coming back? Don't fear. Since I'm currently a freelance filmmaker, I have more control over the balance of my work and my time. You'll hear it first that I am making a "comeback" as cheezy as it sounds. *laughs* So stay tuned for a couple of videos to be uploaded this month.

As for this blog, I'm trying my best to create an email newsletter, but I'm not very knowledgeable in these sorts of things, so kindly be patient with me as I try to sort the technicalities out. I'll continue to share my thoughts on every movie, tv-series, and book that I happen to walk by. For this year, I'm planning to review more books than the usual digital media.

As a freelance filmmaker, there's one thing that draws me to this creative industry and that is editing. I didn't know any better when I was a kid. I was shy and just wanted to combine clips and add some music through software or a device just to bring the moving pictures in my head to life. I try to learn things on my own, but then discover people on the Internet do the same thing.

I just found out last year that it's called "vidding". I will actually explain more of that in another post, but it's basically an art form where editors create videos using already made videos to create another video. It's like fanfiction, but with a limitation of the video resources, we have in order to create. You would find fan-made music videos and trailers that create this alternate universe of your favorite series or K-pop group. Where am I getting at?

Well, before I was uneasy to let people know that I do vidding, but I am starting to see it more as an art form, a way for me to practice my editing skills. Besides, this is how I started. This is how I practiced editing before I got serious about filmmaking.

Just last year, in 2021, I went back to it. I reignited that passion, now wishing I didn't stop. I was able to upload a total of nine videos and it's a number that I can be really proud of myself.

My point is if there's something you're afraid of doing, something you're passionate about because of what people might think of you, don't be. What other people think doesn't matter. What matters is that you're happy, you're doing something that you love, and you're doing something that brings you to who you want to be.

My point is there are so many things that you can do in a year, in a month, in a day, in an hour...I literally surprised myself that I was able to edit nine videos in one year. I even surprised myself more that I was able to finish one project in two days.

So, don't be afraid to do what you love, and make every moment count. I know this is cheezy, but it is true when they say, you only live once. We don't know what life has in store for us, but it's best to live your life the way you want it. It's okay if you don't have a dream, just be happy. If you have a dream, stop doing things that don't take you there. Start doing things and stop procrastinating because you'll be surprised that you can get a lot done in one day, in one month, and in a year. But of course, when you feel that your body needs a break, take that break.

That's all for my TED Talk. *laughs* Take care of yourself, everyone! Have a wonderful 2022!
